We spent a lovely afternoon at St Austell Brewery for the visitors tour, which was hosted by Baz. The pace was spot on and there were lots of opportunities to see what goes on behind the scenes, ending with a ‘mini session’ in the bar and the chance to pull a small draught and to to taste the wide selection of different beers. The tour includes a discount in the brewery shop so we spent some time choosing what to take home with us.

Don’t miss this excellent Cornwall experience
What an excellent afternoon. Two and a half hours with Baz our guide, who was amazing and entertaining, with his 41 years experience and service with the company. Unfortunately I was the driver so only drank the 0.5% Proper Job, which was delicious, and so much nicer than my usual alcohol free lager. My husband got stuck in though and finally had to admit defeat and refused the last few tastings. You get a lot of beer to taste!! Came out with a good selection of beers from the shop, helped by the 15% discount you get when doing the tour. Highly recommended experience, and we’ve found a new beer we’d not previously tried.

Tour really interesting – Dave, the guide, a very congenial host. Food absolutely delicious (started with battered anchovies, then went onto Steak and Ale pie and finished with Sticky Toffee pudding) and great service by all the team… A thoroughly enjoyable visit… thank you so much… Thank you…

Highly recommend the Brewery Tour
Thank you for a great morning. Tour guide Dave, went through the history, bottling, ingredients, to filling the barrels and banging in the bungs. What a great place. Finished off the tour with a taster session which I have to say all the chaps enjoyed. My tea was wonderful thank you. Finished in time for lunch which was also lovely. Such friendly staff. Beautiful place, lovely atmosphere. We would really recommend you coming here if your in the area. Thanks again Dave you did a “Proper Job”.

My partner and I came for the brewery tour and had some lunch beforehand. The food came out quickly and was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked! The tour itself was fun and informative and we both thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot from it. Dave was a fab guide and made the whole tour a really great experience that we’d both highly recommend.

Our annual pilgrimage to Cornwall always ends the same way: with a deliberate, joyful detour up the hill to St Austell Brewery. At this point it’s less a stop-off and more a family tradition; my own personal indulgence wrapped in a treat for everyone else. The Hicks bar above the brewery shop is, frankly, outrageous in the best possible way. Their soups alone could convert a sceptic; rich, comforting, and made with the kind of care you can taste. The chicken wings? Utterly addictive. Today’s standout was the salt & pepper squid which is easily the best I’ve had anywhere in the UK.
